SyncUp Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 28, 2026
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how SyncUp Technologies LLC ("SyncUp," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, retains, and protects information when you use the SyncUp mobile app, SyncUp Pro web surfaces, websites, and related services (collectively, the "Service").
SyncUp is a nightlife discovery and social coordination platform for adults age 21 and older. It helps users discover venues, check in, plan nights out, create or join events, comment, message, vote in polls, invite friends, receive notifications, and interact with venue-related features. SyncUp Pro allows authorized venue owners or managers to claim and manage venue-related information and tools.
This Policy is drafted for SyncUp's United States launch. If SyncUp expands internationally, we may update this Policy to reflect additional legal and operational requirements.
2. Contact information
For privacy questions or requests, contact privacy@syncuptechnologies.com. For general support or child safety concerns, including potential CSAE or CSAM, contact support@syncuptechnologies.com. For legal matters, contact legal@syncuptechnologies.com.
3. Eligibility and age verification
SyncUp accounts and social features are intended only for people age 21 and older. We use self-reported date of birth during signup or onboarding to screen eligibility; this is not a guarantee of government-document identity or age verification. Date of birth is not intended to be publicly displayed. Safety, privacy, and rights-reporting channels remain available without an account regardless of age.
4. Information we collect
A. Account and authentication information
We may collect information needed to create, verify, secure, and manage your account, including your name or display name, username or handle, email address, phone number, password or authentication credentials handled by our authentication providers, email and phone verification status, verification attempts and timestamps, password reset information, account status, onboarding status, deletion status, and related account timestamps. When you use SMS verification, our verification provider processes your phone number and the information needed to deliver and verify a code.
B. Profile and preference information
We may collect profile and preference information such as your profile photo or avatar, bio, favorite drinks, favorite venue or bar preferences, vibe preferences, amenity preferences, discovery radius, saved venues, custom lists, favorites, ratings, gender if you choose to provide it, and other profile settings. Some profile fields may be visible to other users depending on your profile visibility and privacy settings.
C. Location-related information
SyncUp uses location-related information to help you discover nearby venues and power venue-based features. This may include a manually entered city, ZIP code, or address; geocoded coordinates associated with your saved home or discovery location; foreground device location if you grant permission; background device location for Nearby Check-in Reminders when Current Location, the reminder preference, and the required permissions are enabled; and venue associations tied to check-ins, plans, events, venue activity, and directions.
Device GPS permission is optional because you can manually enter a discovery location. SyncUp is not intended to display your raw location directly to other users. However, other users may infer your location or planned location from check-ins, plans, events, invitations, friend activity, or venue-related content you choose to share according to your privacy settings.
We may record the IP address used during signup and send it to an IP-geolocation provider to obtain approximate country, region, and city information for security and account review, including comparison with your saved home location. Signup geography is separate from the home location you provide. IP-based geography may be inaccurate and is not proof of residence.
D. User-generated content and social activity
We collect content and activity you create or interact with on SyncUp, including profiles, bios, photos, videos and their accompanying audio, personal stories, venue check-ins, descriptions, crowd or vibe information, plans, events, comments, likes, reactions, RSVPs, poll votes, ratings, venue lists, favorites, invitations, tags, notifications, reports, blocks, and related metadata. Camera, microphone, and photo-library access depend on the feature and device permissions you grant. You can manage these permissions in your device settings.
E. Direct messages and communications
If you use direct messages, voice messages, comments, invitations, support messages, or similar features, we collect and process the text, photos, videos, voice recordings, and other content you send and related metadata, such as sender, recipient, thread, timestamps, read status, and moderation or safety status. We may access or review communications when needed to operate the Service, respond to reports, enforce our policies, investigate abuse, comply with law, or protect users and platform integrity.
F. Friends, blocking, reporting, and moderation information
We collect information about friend requests, friendships, blocks, reports, moderation actions, restrictions, warnings, suspensions, bans, admin audit logs, abuse-rate-limit logs, and related safety records. We also process privacy, safety, copyright, and other rights requests, including contact details, identity or representative-authority information, content locations, correspondence, and resolution information needed to handle them. We use this information to evaluate and respond to requests, protect people, and meet legal obligations.
G. Venue and SyncUp Pro information
If you interact with venue or SyncUp Pro features, we may collect venue claim requests, venue roles, owner/manager/staff permissions, team invitations, official venue events, venue profile edits, proof or claim-related materials, campaign and promotional-credit records, and related administrative records. For reservations, we process the venue, date and time, party size, special requests, reservation status, changes, cancellations, and related history. The venue's authorized staff can access reservation information needed to manage the booking and may record operational notes or a no-show status. Special requests may include accessibility needs or other sensitive details you choose to provide; include only what the venue needs to handle your request.
H. Aggregate venue audience analytics
SyncUp may use check-ins and profile information to produce aggregate age bands, gender categories, and home-city distributions for internal network analysis and SyncUp Pro venue analytics. These analytics describe distinct eligible SyncUp members who checked in during a selected period; they do not describe every customer who visited a venue. Users whose stored analytics opt-out flag is enabled, deleted or deletion-pending profiles, company staff, and venue accounts are excluded.
Venue audience analytics are available only after at least 20 distinct eligible members checked in during the selected period. Company staff may access exact aggregate bucket counts for internal analysis after that overall threshold is met. Demographic buckets with fewer than 10 members remain combined or suppressed for venue owners and managers, and suppressed buckets do not receive a Network comparison. Venues receive aggregate percentages and may receive the exact total size of an eligible visitor cohort, but they do not receive demographic drilldowns, demographic exports, or individual attendance records.
SyncUp does not provide venues with member identities, names, email addresses, exact date of birth, custom gender text, home address, ZIP code, coordinates, or any individual's demographic or attendance history through these analytics. Age is converted into bands on the server, custom gender entries are grouped as Another identity, and home location is limited to a case-normalized city category.
I. Device, usage, and service information
We and our service providers may process technical information such as device and platform information, push notification tokens, IP address, provider telemetry, app interactions, search or query interactions where stored, crash reports, stack traces, app version and build information, route templates, a pseudonymous account identifier, service logs, and other diagnostic information needed to operate, secure, debug, and improve the Service.
Our first-party product analytics may record sessions and time spent in the app, screen and content views, feed impressions, searches and selected results, notification receipt and opening, and sanitized app error and performance signals. These records can include the app version, native build number, runtime version, software update identifier, platform, content or venue identifiers, and your account identifier so authorized SyncUp staff can understand product use and reliability. Internal account and activity reporting includes all account roles, including company staff, venue owners, and venue staff. This internal reporting is separate from the aggregate venue audience analytics described above. We do not use these records for cross-app advertising tracking or share them with data brokers.
J. Payment and advertising information
SyncUp does not currently collect payments from users or venues, offer paid credit top-ups, or use third-party advertising SDKs. Eligible venues can use granted promotional credits for first-party venue and official-event campaigns. We use age eligibility based on date of birth, saved home geography, distance from a venue, and other eligibility information to select promotions within SyncUp. We record impressions, clicks, hides, and reports, and may attribute later profile or event views, RSVPs, check-ins, and reservations to the most recent qualifying promotion click within seven days. These attribution counts measure recorded actions and do not establish attendance, a completed booking, or a purchase. If payment processing or other paid features are introduced, we will update the applicable terms, this Policy, and required platform disclosures before launch.
5. Sources of information
We may collect information directly from you, automatically from your device or app usage, from your interactions with other users, from venues or venue managers using SyncUp Pro, from our service providers, and from third-party services used to power app features, such as authentication, mapping, geocoding, storage, notifications, hosting, crash reporting, diagnostics, or analytics.
6. How we use information
We use information to operate, provide, maintain, personalize, secure, and improve SyncUp. This includes using information to:
create, verify, authenticate, and manage user accounts;
verify that users meet the 21+ eligibility requirement;
provide venue discovery, location-based recommendations, directions, distance filtering, and optional nearby check-in reminders after a stay near a venue;
power profiles, check-ins, plans, events, comments, messages, polls, likes, ratings, invitations, notifications, and friend features;
support public, private, friends-only, custom, and invitee-only visibility settings;
operate SyncUp Pro venue claiming, venue management, official event, team, and analytics tools;
process reports, enforce Community Guidelines and Terms, prevent abuse, restrict accounts, and protect user safety;
detect spam, rate-limit abusive activity, investigate suspicious behavior, and secure the Service;
process account deletion, anonymization, and data-retention workflows;
respond to support, legal, privacy, and safety requests;
comply with applicable law and enforce our rights; and
analyze app performance and improve features, user experience, venue data, safety, and reliability.
We may also use User Content you choose to make public in SyncUp's own marketing and social channels under the limited permission described in our Terms of Service. Private messages, restricted-audience stories and check-ins, reports, and other nonpublic content are excluded from public marketing use. Contact legal@syncuptechnologies.com to request removal of a promotional copy we control or to ask us to stop future promotional use.
7. How information is visible to others
SyncUp includes social and venue-based features, so some information you provide or create may be visible to other users or venues depending on your settings and how you use the Service.
Public profiles may be viewed by other authenticated users. Public check-ins and stories can reach people who are not your friends through discovery surfaces, and public check-in photos may also appear in a venue's public gallery. Public event or plan previews may be visible on shared web links when that feature is enabled. Choose the audience for each piece of content as well as your profile visibility.
Private profiles may remain searchable but show limited information to non-friends, while activity, check-ins, events, top venues, and full friend-list access may be limited to the profile owner and accepted friends.
Check-ins may be public, friends-only, custom close-friends, or hidden from selected users depending on available settings.
Plans and events may be public, friends-only, private, invitee-only, or otherwise limited based on the selected visibility.
Official venue events may appear publicly when published by an authorized venue account.
Direct messages are intended for the selected participants, but may be processed or reviewed for operations, safety, support, reports, legal compliance, or policy enforcement as described in this Policy.
Your email address, phone number, date of birth, gender, home address, ZIP code, saved home/discovery coordinates, discovery radius, deletion status, moderation state, push tokens, and backend identifiers are intended to remain private or internal and are not intended to be displayed publicly. People who can view content may save or share copies outside SyncUp.
8. How we disclose information
We may disclose information in the following circumstances:
To other users, based on your profile visibility, content visibility settings, social interactions, check-ins, plans, events, comments, messages, invitations, and other choices.
To venues and their authorized staff, where necessary to operate reservations, venue-related features, official events, venue claims, aggregate analytics, promotion performance reports, team tools, or user interactions with venue pages. Reservation information is separate from the aggregate audience analytics described above.
To service providers that help us operate the Service, including cloud hosting, database, storage, authentication, maps, geocoding, image handling, notifications, email, crash reporting, diagnostics, analytics, security, debugging, or support providers.
To app stores and platform providers as needed for app distribution, device functionality, notifications, authentication, or compliance with their policies.
To comply with law, legal process, law enforcement requests, or governmental requests when we believe disclosure is required or appropriate.
To report or respond to suspected CSAE, CSAM, grooming, trafficking, child endangerment, or other child safety concerns to law enforcement, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), or other appropriate authorities as required or permitted by law.
To protect rights, safety, security, users, venues, SyncUp, or the public, including to investigate fraud, abuse, harassment, threats, illegal activity, or policy violations.
In connection with a business transaction, such as a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets.
With your consent or at your direction.
At launch, we do not sell personal information and do not share personal information with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising or targeted advertising.
9. Third-party services and external links
Service providers include Supabase for authentication, database, and storage; Vercel for website hosting; Twilio Verify for SMS verification; Resend for email delivery; Sentry as a crash-reporting service provider; Google Maps/Places for maps and venue information; Expo and device-platform push services for notifications; and ipwho.is for approximate signup IP geolocation. Device features also use Expo Location, Camera/Image Picker, AuthSession/WebBrowser, and React Native Maps. We remain responsible for our processing of personal information under applicable law. If you follow links to venue websites, Instagram, directions providers, or other external services, those services process information under their own terms and privacy policies.
10. Location privacy
Your saved home or discovery location is used for personalization, local recommendations, venue discovery, and distance filtering. You may provide a city, ZIP code, or address, and SyncUp may geocode that input into coordinates. Foreground device location may be requested if you choose to grant permission.
On supported app versions, Nearby Check-in Reminders use device location, including background location when the app is closed, to detect a stay near a venue and invite you to check in after approximately ten minutes. The reminder preference is on by default, but monitoring requires Current Location to be on and notification, foreground location, and background location permissions to be granted. In Settings > Notifications > Venue Notifications, Allow permissions or enabling reminders while Current Location is on shows an explanation of background location use before the permission requests. You can cancel that request or deny permission. Location alone does not create or share a check-in; you must confirm a check-in yourself.
The reminder feature registers boundaries around nearby venues with your phone's operating system (geofences). Entering a venue boundary can start temporary high-accuracy location checks to verify how long you stay nearby. On Android, this verification uses a foreground location service with a visible notification titled Nearby check-in reminders. The service does not run continuously: verification stops after the visit is handled, eligibility is lost, or its time limit is reached. Reminders respect Push Notifications, quiet hours, and active check-ins, and do not automatically publish your presence at a venue.
Nearby venue searches send your current search coordinates to SyncUp's backend to retrieve venue locations. The reminder feature does not send a continuous GPS trail or a detected-visit record to the server. Your phone's operating system stores registered geofence centers, and the app stores venue identifiers and coordinates, local visit timestamps and counters, reminder history, and your device-specific reminder settings. Attendance evidence older than twenty-four hours is not used. Raw device coordinates are not included in reminder notifications or shared with other users.
You can turn off Current Location under Settings > Preferences or Nearby Check-in Reminders under Settings > Notifications > Venue Notifications, exclude individual venues, and revoke location or notification permission in your device settings. Turning off Current Location or Nearby Check-in Reminders stops reminder monitoring. Signing out stops reminder monitoring and clears local visit evidence for that account. Delivery and accuracy depend on location conditions and operating-system background limits.
Check-ins, plans, events, and venue activity may reveal or imply where you are, where you have been, or where you plan to go. You should use privacy controls carefully and avoid sharing location-based activity with people you do not trust.
11. Data retention and account deletion
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, maintain your account, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, prevent abuse, protect safety, maintain audit records, and operate our business.
You can request account deletion from within the app after re-authentication and confirmation, or contact privacy@syncuptechnologies.com if you cannot access the app. An in-app confirmation hides your profile and starts a seven-day cancellation period. For an email request, ownership verification and manual processing come first. After the cancellation period, permanent deletion processing begins for your account and account-linked content, media, messages, social relationships, preferences, and other personal data. Completion can take additional time. Legal holds and other applicable legal or safety requirements may delay deletion of specific information.
Some moderation, deletion, audit, legal-hold, security, crash, diagnostic, or abuse-prevention records may be retained in limited identifiable, pseudonymous, or de-identified form as reasonably necessary for legal compliance, safety, security, reliability, and abuse prevention. An account identifier is pseudonymous data and is not necessarily de-identified. Backup copies and provider-held records may remain until the applicable retention or deletion process completes. Retention must be limited to the relevant purpose and applicable legal requirements.
A story or check-in disappearing from active views does not necessarily erase its underlying record or media. When a check-in is archived, its media is normally queued for storage deletion after a 30-day retention period, subject to processing and legal or safety requirements. Removing an individual story item from view does not necessarily trigger that same deletion schedule. Copies that other people have already saved or shared outside SyncUp are outside our control.
12. Your choices and controls
Depending on available app features, you may be able to access or update profile information, edit preferences, choose profile visibility, choose content visibility, manage friends, block users, report content, manage notification settings, change or clear certain location preferences, delete some content, or request account deletion.
Previously saved analytics opt-out choices continue to be honored for future optional client usage capture and exclude the account from aggregate venue audience reports. These choices do not delete previously collected records. Account and content records, such as accounts created, check-ins, events, plans, comments, and social actions, remain available to operate the Service and support internal administrative reporting. Essential security, service, and crash diagnostics continue under the safeguards described in this policy. Use the account deletion flow or contact privacy@syncuptechnologies.com to request deletion of account-linked data.
You can request access, correction, deletion, a copy or export, or help with privacy choices at privacy@syncuptechnologies.com. Our request and appeal procedure is at https://syncuptechnologies.com/privacy-requests. We verify identity and authorized-agent authority as reasonably needed, do not require a new account, and do not discriminate against people for exercising applicable rights. Do not send passwords, verification codes, or identity-document images by ordinary email.
13. Children and minors
SyncUp accounts and social features are not intended for anyone under 21. If we learn that an underage person has an account, we may disable it and handle the information as appropriate under applicable law. Safety or rights reports may include information about younger people; we handle what is necessary for protection, required reporting, evidence preservation, and legal compliance rather than requiring the reporter to join the app.
SyncUp strictly prohibits child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), child sexual abuse material (CSAM), grooming, sextortion, trafficking, or any content or conduct that exploits, sexualizes, harms, endangers, or targets minors. Although SyncUp is a 21+ service, we may process reports, account data, messages, content, logs, or other relevant information to prevent, detect, investigate, remove, report, or respond to child safety concerns.
We may remove content, permanently ban accounts, preserve evidence, and report suspected CSAE, CSAM, grooming, trafficking, or child endangerment to law enforcement, NCMEC, or other appropriate authorities as required or permitted by law.
Child safety concerns, including potential CSAE or CSAM, should be reported in the app or sent to support@syncuptechnologies.com.
14. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information. However, no system, storage method, or transmission method is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for using caution when sharing personal information or location-based activity.
15. U.S. state privacy rights
Depending on your residence, the processing involved, and applicable law, you may have rights to confirm processing, access, correct, delete, obtain a portable copy, or opt out of certain processing, and to use an authorized agent or appeal a denial. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. First-party venue promotions and their measurement are described above. Send requests to privacy@syncuptechnologies.com; use the subject SyncUp Privacy Request Appeal to appeal a denial. We generally respond to requests within 45 days. A permitted extension is no more than an additional 45 days, with notice and reasons within the initial period. We respond to privacy appeals in writing within 60 days, or sooner where applicable law requires. If an appeal is denied, we explain applicable regulator complaint options, including the Texas Attorney General for covered Texas requests. Shorter statutory deadlines and other mandatory protections control. Browser Do Not Track signals do not change the essential operation of our website. We do not currently operate advertising tracking across unaffiliated sites. We honor legally required preference signals for processing to which they apply; our current service does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
16. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date. If required by law, we will provide additional notice or request consent. Your continued use of SyncUp after an updated Policy becomes effective means you acknowledge the updated Policy.
17. Contact us
For privacy questions or requests, contact privacy@syncuptechnologies.com. For general support or child safety concerns, including potential CSAE or CSAM, contact support@syncuptechnologies.com. For legal matters, contact legal@syncuptechnologies.com.
